7Note: Issued in the time of Tiberius in honor of his predecessor Augustus, who was deified with the posthumous titl[DIVVS]e Divine and taxed by Victoria, military success. The latter representation marks the legend S.C. (Senatus Consultao), whose mark differentiates the power over monetary minting. In the time of the Republic, it was the Senate, but Augustus, the first emperor of Rome, assumed control of the gold and silver, limiting to the Senate those of bronze and brass or oricalc. This assumption of power spread over the later emperors, hence the coins made with this material, from the government of Augustus, bear this mark.
