The Canarian Museum Library is divided into four sections: The Canarian Library, the General Library, the Canarian Reference Library and the Maffiote Library.

Fulfilling one of the Museum's objectives on its foundation, the Canarian Library holds the largest existing collection of printed material about the Canary Islands, written by Canarian authors or printed in the Canary Islands. The collection is made up of about 15,000 volumes, spanning from the 16th century to the present day. It is the Museum's central bibliographical collection, and it is given priority as regards all technical processes developed, particularly in the case of the selection, acquisition, cataloguing and placing into service of new items.

The General Library –consisting of over 40,000 volumes– is made up of wide-ranging publications in different languages, spanning from the 15th to the 21st century. Their acquisition has been mostly via donations or exchanges. The collection of the former Municipal Library of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the bibliographical collection of the Real Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País de Gran Canaria (a non-governmental cultural institution) have also been incorporated to the Museum's General Library.

In addition to the two central collections above, the Museum houses a Canarian Reference Library, a collection of publications which, although not of an essentially local character, contain information of interest on our islands, or a collaboration by a Canarian author.
Finally, the Museum also houses the Maffiotte Library, a collection of printed material on or related to the Canary Islands, gathered in Madrid by the bibliographer Luis Maffiotte La Roche.
The Canarian Museum Library catalogue is currently incorporated into the Library Network of the Government of the Canary Islands, and it can be consulted online via the Government's website.
