Aboriginal ceramic ware in Gran Canaria

The large number of ceramic pieces exhibited in this room display a wide variety of shapes and an extraordinary range of painted motifs combining manifold geometrical elements that set them apart from the ceramic ware produced on the other islands.

Their function determined to a large extent both their decoration and shape. The larger vessels were probably used for storing different products such as cereals, other pieces were used for the processing of food and others for rituals or magico-religious ceremonies.

There are also a number of scaled-down pieces on display in this room, which are thought to have been either ritual objects, toys or simply miniature vessels.
